Plainview Rotarians held their weekly meeting at noon on Tuesday, August 15, at the PISD Board Room.

Kerry McCormack opened the meeting with an invocation. President Jeri Strange then recognized members marking their Rotary anniversaries in August. Celebrated for a combined service period of 17 years were Ted Baker (15 years) and Marka Fikes (2 years).

Stacey Offield introduced her daughter, Campbell Offield, as a guest to the club. Campbell is a former Student of the Month from November 2021.

During the weekly announcements, members pledged contributions to The Rotary Foundation in return for making "brags". Scott Franklin commended his son Tim Franklin who recently competed with the Blue Coats drum corps and who placed second at the recent DCI World Championships in Indianapolis.  Tim is also a former Student of the Month.

In other announcements, Strange reminded the club of the upcoming social at the bowling alley on the fifth Tuesday of August instead of the regular meeting.  Coralyn Dillard invited the club to continue to make donations of toiletries and sheets to the Blessings Closet at Wayland.  Anyone wishing to donate can bring the items to the weekly meetings or make a monetary contribution.

The program was provided by Bobby Gibson, Chief of the City of Plainview Fire Department.  Chief Gibson shared details about the installation of the new Fire Department monument at the recently completed Fire Station 2.  The effort to memorialize our fallen firefighters as well as those who have served Plainview in the past was led by the Cancer Survivors Prayer Support Group.  Andrea Ingram represented the group at the meeting and her husband Rusty Ingram invited gifts and donations to support the monument.  The monument will include a bronze sculpted statue of a kneeling firefighter on a pedestal.  The placement of the 9-foot monument is intended to be visible from I-27

Following the meeting, the Rotarians dispersed, committed to the Rotary's motto of "Service Above Self" as they seek ways to "Create Hope in the World."  The next meeting will take place at noon on August 22nd in the PISD Board Room, featuring a presentation by Lone Star Santa, Rodney Watson. The Field House Sandwich Shop will cater the meeting.
