Club Meeting notes from Tuesday, October 14, 2014.

It felt like an early Christmas this year, as Rotary began by singing, “Rotary, My Rotary,” to the tune of, "O Tannenbaum, O Tannenbaum,” followed by Yankee Doodle.

We welcomed guest and prospective member Isauro Gutierrez, along with Rob Burd. Charles introduced our exchange student Pierre, who went to the tech game and who admired the technical ability of the opposing kicker, if not the result of the kick itself. Lon introduced his wife Jerry, and Lydia introduced Student of the month Matthew Holloway, previous SOM Drew Wilkinson, and RYLA camper Bianco Berumen.

Dorothy bragged on seeing David in a tuxedo, Ross bragged on Baylor, Lon bragged on Xylitol, Eloisa survived the Red River Rivalry (and bragged on West Virginia), and Beverly bragged on Don Book and something about a cow patty.

Isauro’s name was read for membership, Richard talked to us about the Running Water Draw Arts and Crafts Festival, JB announced Bill Weaks’ photo exhibition in Lubbock (Thursday, October 30, Texas Tech at the Southwest Collection from 3-5pm) , and Buddy announced Meals on Wheels opportunities.

Stan introduced our speaker, Rick Cooper, new Athletic Director at Wayland Baptist University, who gave an informative and entertaining talk about the sports scene at WBU.

Ted ended the meeting with the encouragement to ‘lighten up, Rotary!’ through ‘service above self.’
