Club meeting Notes from May 19, 2015

Meeting began with prayer offered by Karen Earhart, followed by sinning singing some songs, led by guest song leader, Stan DeMerritt. Ross inquired as the exact meaning of the endearment, "Tootsie-Wootsie."

We welcomed all the parents of our Students of the Month, along with Jerry and Heather Bozeman, guests of Lon Jones; Christian Givens, Jay's son; John Earhart, guest of Karen, and special media guest, Homer Marquez.

Lon bragged on his granddaughter Heather, and the Xlear nasal spray that helped her overcome ear infections as a young child and gave her the opportunity to earn more than $20,000 in scholarships. Lon was reminded that brag fees are indexed to a  percentage of the total financial amount being bragged, but he stuck to his guns. Congratulations, Heather!!

Jay bragged on Isaac passing his Eagle board of review; Karen bragged on the PCA senior prank, something about cows on campus. Your faithful editor seems to remember a similar prank going awry recently, which ultimately led to the firing of an irate teacher who unwisely vented on Facebook. Or the principal who was fired after his students vandalized the school. We are so glad nothing like that happened here in Plainview, and that the seniors were able to have some end of the year hi-jinks in a reasonably safe way.

Lydia bragged on John Gattica, receiving the Literacy Council "Lity" award (no relationship to Lydia); Kenneth bragged on the recent perfect attendance award winners in the schools.

Buddy announced Meals on Wheels opportunities.

Lydia introduced Cynthia Gregory, who offered our program honoring our Students of the Month for this last year:
October: Drew Wilkinson
November: Bianca Beruman
December: Laura Beth Earhart
January: Isaac Givens
February: Tanner Morton
March: Lauren Aguirre
April: Shayla Ross

The Gene V. Owen Scholarship award was presented by Ross Owen to Bianca Beruman.

Lydia closed the meeting with a reminder to 'Lighten UP, Rotary," through "Service Above Self."
